
B1 Goethe Exam Pattern
Congratulations on Reaching the B1 Level in the German Language!
B1 is considered an intermediate level, indicating that you have successfully built a strong foundation in German and are now progressing toward more advanced communication skills. In the Goethe-Zertifikat B1 exam, you will be evaluated across the four fundamental language skills: Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking.
To pass the exam, a minimum of 60% is required in each module.
READING (LESEN)
Total Time: 65 minutes (including 5 minutes to transfer answers)
Total Points: 30
This module consists of 5 parts:
Teil 1 – Blog Entry (10 minutes)

You will read a blog post and answer 6 true-or-false statements based on the text.
Teil 2 – Press Reports (20 minutes)

You will read 7 brief “letters to the editor” reacting to a controversial topic. Indicate whether each person is for (Ja) or against (Nein) the topic. Only the headline will be provided, so read it carefully.

LISTENING (HÖREN)

The Speaking exam is conducted in pairs and you are provided with 15 minutes of preparation time.

At the end of the exam, you will be provided with a separate answer sheet where you must fill in all your responses.
